Community Guidelines

Investor Ratings mission is to be a trusted resource for start-up founders to get clear, authentic information about what it’s like to work with an investor. We’ve made our guidelines transparent to ensure every user understands the ground rules for participation in our community and to answer any questions they have.

Honest, Authentic Review Content

Reviewer validation
We require the use of a LinkedIn™ account or verified business email address to validate a reviewer’s identity and current employer. Every review on Investor Ratings will have a “Validated Reviewer” tag to reflect this verification.

Personal information
While we collect the reviewer’s personal information, it is used for identification purposes and to communicate with the review creator about their content. No personal information will be shown to site visitors, or shared with other companies.

Relationship validation
We seek to confirm the relationship between the reviewer and investor leveraging available online data. When this relationship is verified with 3rd party data, a “Validated Investor Relationship” tag is posted with the review.

Moderation
A team member at Investor Ratings evaluates every submitted review to ensure it meets requirements. All reviews pass this moderation process before being published. We reserve the right to remove posts that do not meet standards.

Content editing and deletion
We do not edit or alter review content in any way. We also do not filter or delete reviews because they are too positive or negative.

One review per investor
Multiple evaluations of an investor using different email addresses is not permitted.

Coerced or incentivized content
Reviews must be written voluntarily and reflect the honest, personal opinion and experience of the author. If users are incentivized or coerced to leave a review it will be removed.

Be informative
Your review will help other founders decide which investors to speak with. Include details you’d be looking for in an investor. The more informative your review is, the more founders will engage with it.

Strive for a balanced perspective
You may love this investor, or you may have had a difficult time with them. In either case, your experience likely was not 100% positive, or 100% negative. People reading your review will place less trust in a one that’s overly positive or negative, so try to share a comprehensive view of your experience.

Focus on your personal experience
M
any people were likely involved in conversations with the investor you’re reviewing. We encourage you to share what you heard and experienced first-hand as much as possible.

Naming individuals
In general, we do not allow individual people and their personal information (name, email, phone number, etc.) to be shared in a review. The only exception is we do allow reviews that name executive team members (C-Suite, Executive Director, President, Owner, etc.) as these individuals shape the culture of the organization.

Be clear
We don’t expect perfect grammar and spelling, but we need to be able to understand what you’re saying.

Abusive content
Do not post content that’s offensive, aggressive, or deliberately disrespectful. This includes sexual content, profanity and hate speech on the basis of ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, religious affiliation, etc.

Threats
Threatening violence is not permitted.

Confidential information
Do not post content that reveals confidential information about the investor.

Editing reviews
Users can edit their review to reflect changing opinions or to ensure that the review meets our quality standards. Edited reviews go back through our moderation process once changes are submitted.
